I’m not saying I’m a Bad Mom. But the resemblance of my life and Kristen Bell’s character in the Bad Moms movies is uncanny. She actually says in movie “Kids don’t drink the Christmas tree water!”…which is a seasonal phrase that I have repeated often in our house. Or maybe we just have the same number of kids. Whatever.
The point is…this movie made me laugh. A lot. I am pretty sure tears of joy were rolling down my face in the first 2 minutes. And as I looked around at the mom squad that I went with they were loving it just as much as I was.
I embrace the message of this movie as they rebel against the challenges and expectations of the Super Bowl for moms: Christmas. I have decided to make changes this holiday season to not stress myself out. There is no denying that the holiday season brings pressure. And with pressure comes crazy. And with crazy comes perfection. And the perfection leaves us exhausted and not enjoying the partridge in the pear tree or the silent nights. (Oh who am I kidding, there are no “Silent Nights” around my house anyway.) Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I am giving up on the season of giving. I’m just don’t have to make it perfect and deck the heck out of the halls.
This movie reminds me of the realness of Christmas and motherhood and was worth the trip to the movie theatre…to sit in peace and quiet without children pulling on my leg, while eating delicious snacks and drinking a tasty beverage (my movie theatre serves wine!).
If you could use a break, I recommend grabbing a friend, a neighbor or a fellow mom who needs a good laugh and enjoy a night out. Even a good mom needs a Bad Mom time out.
